I've gotten facials and waxing here. I like both estheticians that work there Bri and Meka. I have gotten the Derma-planing facial and Brazilian Waxes. Meka can get you done in like 20 minutes or less. They have hard and soft wax options. They usually alway have a sale. There is a lot of knowledge between the two of them and experience. The vibe is chill and relaxing. Always some lofi playing or r and b.

I moved to the DMV area last year and my skin was not cooperating with the cold, dry weather. I searched online for an esthetician and came across Skin Beauty Bar. All of the reviews I read were comforting. It is also a Black-owned business, so I definitely felt this was the place for me to go.
The booking process online is very simple. You select which facial you want, request the date and time of your appointment, and pay your deposit. The estheticians respond to your request usually the same day.
So far, I've gotten about 3-4 facials with Meka and a waxing with Bri. They are the absolute best. For my facials, Meka is so attentive on the progress of my skin over the last year. She is very informative on what I should/shouldn't use on my skin and if I should switch up anything in my daily routine. Bri is very informative on how to take care of my skin after a waxing.
I've even recommended a friend come here, and they absolutely loved it! Skin Beauty Bar is worth the money and the results. I'm so happy I found this place up here!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

You are such a loyal and appreciated guest. You refer us clients and just are such a great person. Thank you for your kind review. - Kaitlin B.Washington, DC021Apr 18, 2022
I booked an appointment for a facial with Meka. When I arrived I was told my appointment was with someone else. My appointment started 30 minutes late and was in a closet. The light in the closet stopped working when I was halfway undressed. The woman doing the facial clearly had never given one before. She poked me in the eye repeatedly. There was supposed to be a massage included and all she did was light rub some lotion on my feet and hands, no neck or head massage whatsoever even though it was advertised. When I complained the front desk staff told me jt wasn't her fault or her problem and told me I should be embarrassed for complaining to her. She then called me a bitch and told me to leave. I will never go back, extremely bad service all around.
Regarding your comment below:
This isn't a great start, starting with it lie.
1) yes I did, I was rebooking a canceled appointment with you and you acknowledged that it was with you via a text message, see picture.
2) interesting comment, it makes me wonder if you have had complaints about this person in the past. I did not question the credentials of the person who gave me the facial just the lack of professionalism and ability to make this an enjoyable experience.
3) It looked like a closet to me, it was small and the esthetician could only stand on one side of the table. The lighting did not work properly, I had to find my way to the table in total darkness as the light stopped working as I was undressing. There was no ventilation, it is basically a closet you've retrofitted to be a service room.
4) The fact you've written are true but there's a lot more to it than that including ... asking to speak to you to discuss, challenging the service I was given and not getting a reasonable (never mind professional response)
5) If am surprised you would chose to do that without calling me. I urge you to reconsider your threats and consider professionalism and retraining. I also made a deposit on this service, so it is hardly as if I have paid nothing. I could also make threats about slander. Consider this... being called a bitch and told to get out in such circumstances is threatening behaviour and something I found extremely hostile and made me want to get out of there asap. I can't quite believe that upon hearing your front desk staff called me a bitch and told me my complaints weren't her problem that you did not immediately pick up the phone. Reading your other replies on here though I see this is just how you do business. No attempts to rectify bad service, just slandering clients who call out poor experiences.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Kaitlin:
1. When you booked via telephone you did not request Meka
2. The person who performed your facial is a licensed esthetician.
3 Your facial was not performed in a closet. In fact, the room was a sink, cabinets, facial steamer, massage bed, wax warmer, stool and square ottoman.
4. You stated that your not paying for the service and left without paying for the remainder of your service
5. A police report will be made at the local station regarding theft. - Colored S.Washington, DC012Dec 19, 2022

Been meaning to check out this place for a while.. Never had a consistent good wax. Based on today's experience I believe I can get that here. Also love that it's black owned. Bri was detailed in her work, greatly appreciated.

Skin Beauty Bar is a fantastic place for beauty treatments. I started going to Skin Beauty Bar over 3 years ago and have had a great experience every time. The staff is professional, helpful, and very talented. Highly recommend!

I booked a custom facial, and it as impressive! I felt a bit nervous because my skin has been out of control since moving here from Indianapolis, IN.
The facial was relaxing, and the spa doesn't push unnecessary products.
I already booked my next appointment.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauren E.Washington, DC492010Nov 8, 2019
I did an aromatherapy massage with Zeena. It was a groupon I found. The massage was excellent and service at the place was great!!
The 4 stars is for the actual room and scenery. Could have been a bit warmer. I was chilly. The music was not "spa" music like you would expect. And you can hear everything else going on... other staff and patrons talking, moving around outside the massage room.
I would definitely go back, just have to keep in mind the things you may expect during a massage may not be the same as other places.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dominique C.Washington, DC043Feb 10, 2019Updated review
Meka,
I'm sorry that you didn't read my entire review. I've added an additional photo of what my eyebrows look like today, before I put makeup on. As you can see, *there is no trace of microblading on my brows*. This is why I'm not going to pay for a touch up. It didn't take.
It's not about being frugal -- for one, you have different promotions every month, and as I've said before, my eyebrows require complete re-drawing, and there's no guarantee it would work the second time. I chose your spa for reasons that I listed in my first review, but if I were to ever do this again, I would spend *more money* to go to another spa that had more than one licensed microblading specialist, so that if I was unhappy with my results, there would be more accountability.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1Business owner information

Dominique:
I spent 4 hours on your microblading service. And you read the microblading consent form which stated the healing process and it also stated that it was not guaranteed. In addition, you purchased your microblading during our Black Friday Promotion which was discounted. The consent form also stated a touch may be required after 6 weeks. I replied to all our emails except the request for a refund. I have a no refund policy and microblading is tedious procedure. For you to discredit my work is absurd. I have been a licensed esthetician since 1997 and take pride in my esthetics work, as well as, my business. I have been located on the hill since 2004 and my loyal clients would never go to yelp if they had a complaint. It seems that you are frugal and had no intention of having a microblading touchup. Again I do not work for free.
My website has a consultation for $50 which you did not schedule. And during the consultation I do not microblade the eyebrows. And the photos you posted are what is supposed to happen. Your eyebrows are supposed to scab.Feb 4, 2019Previous reviewI will do my best to be as impartial as possible. I really like Meka (the owner) and I think that the business is set up nicely, but I would think twice before getting microblading because *there is no guarantee it will take on your skin*.
Please note, this is in the waiver that I signed, so while I was aware of this, I am leaving a less than stellar review because I feel that the business did not do the best job addressing my concerns.
The pigment from my brows came out when my brows started scabbing, so 5 days out, it started to look like I had not had the service. I called the business and left a voice mail. I emailed and days later Meka responded, stating that some clients require a touch up 6 weeks out. I'm now 6 weeks out drawing my eyebrows in every day because there are no signs that I got microblading. :( It's very disappointing.
When I replied to Meka, I explained that I understood that she should get paid for her work, but I am frustrated and don't feel like getting a touch-up is worthwhile because there's no guarantee that it will work, I got no response. (Keep in mind, this service was $400 + tip and an entire afternoon of my life. And the touch up is $150...)
In order to improve this experience, I would recommend (aside from not ghosting your clients) offering to do a $50 consult and applying that $50 to the microblading service if the client decides to go through with it. And during the consult, maybe doing a few scratches to see if the ink will hold. Again I'm not an esthetician, I don't know if this is feasible, but it seems better than going in blind.
**
If I hadn't had this experience, I would go back to Skin for other services. I like the idea of supporting a local, woman-owned business, and I do take acknowledge the risk of not knowing whether microblading would "take" for me, but I'm not making this mistake again. - Emily D.Washington, DC191151Dec 26, 2018
I recommend Skin Beauty Bar, but do NOT recommend purchasing gift certificates there!
I've been going to Skin Beauty Bar for years now, but they recently would not extend a gift certificate I bought. As a busy mama, it is hard to find the time to schedule an appointment, and my massages and facials have been great, but I need a place that will be flexible with gift certificates.
They are great presents to yourself and others, but I don't want other people to lose money like I did.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Emily:
You forgot to tell the truth that I extended your gift certificate this summer after the expiration date to October 2018. So you decided to call and text this morning and want to extend the expired gift certificate again. I am so sick of clients like you that lie when they can not get their way.
Your gift certificate had expired amost 2 years ago and as a courtesy I extended it to October 2018 and this is how you react.
This effects my business and I have been nothing, but kind to you. In fact, during your last visit you presented the gift certificate after your service and I informed you that it was expired, but I would honor it and extend it to October 2018. And you graciously thanked me. And this is how you respond. You should be ashamed of yourself.
